Partnership registration has more coordination than a one-person business name because the other partners must participate in the CROS approval process.
Decide the ownership arrangement before filing
Agree who the partners are, the name the firm will use, the business activity and the principal place of business before starting the registration.
Separate commercial agreements between partners should be discussed with an appropriate legal adviser where needed; the Registry filing does not replace a partnership agreement.
Every partner needs a CRA
The Companies Registry states that every partner to the business name must have a CRA. Create those accounts early so the registration does not stop while one partner completes identity verification.
Confirm each partner’s name and account information exactly as it appears in CROS.
Reserve the business name
Use the CROS search and name-reservation process before the registration filing. The current business-name reservation fee is TT$20 and an approved reservation is valid for 45 days.
Do not build the launch around an unapproved name.
Complete the partner approvals
Other partners approve their inclusion through their CROS accounts. The filing partner then uses the required account details to finish the registration application.
Plan this step when partners are in different locations or have limited access to their Registry accounts.
File the firm registration
Once the approvals are in place, complete the firm registration application and pay the current TT$220 business-name registration fee.
Keep the registered information current. Changes to the business name, nature of business, place of business or ownership can trigger a Statement of Change filing.
