BIR and PAYE registration support in Trinidad and Tobago
Tax registration is not one universal number for every purpose. The Inland Revenue Division (IRD) identifies several BIR-number types, including Individual Income Tax File Numbers, Company File Numbers, PAYE Numbers and VAT Registration. The correct route depends on the business structure and whether the business employs staff.
BizReg's TTD $400 BIR & PAYE service is designed to prepare and support the BIR and PAYE pathways that apply to the client's business. The post-payment intake first establishes whether the applicant is a sole trader or company, whether a BIR number already exists, whether the business is registered for TTBizLink, and whether employees are being hired.
Company File Number requirements published by IRD
IRD currently lists a completed AOI-002 form and valid identification for every director for a Company File Number application. For an Individual Income Tax File Number, IRD lists the IA-001 form and valid identification.
Sole trader / individual
We determine whether the individual already has a BIR file number and identify the personal filing route that applies.
Limited company
We collect company registration details and director information needed to prepare the Company File Number pathway.
PAYE employer account
If the business employs staff, the intake captures employee count and employment timing so PAYE registration can be included where applicable.
Online-access readiness
IRD states that company, PAYE and VAT registration can be performed online where the applicant is already registered for TTBizLink through TTConnect.
PAYE is an employer system
PAYE is the mechanism through which income tax is withheld from employment income. IRD places responsibilities on both employers and employees. Employees provide their BIR file number and TD1 information to the employer, while the employer is responsible for operating the PAYE withholding process and related reporting.
This is why the BizReg intake does not automatically treat every new business as an active PAYE employer. It asks whether employees are engaged. Where PAYE is not yet applicable, the file records that position instead of forcing an unnecessary employer-registration path.
What BizReg prepares
- Identify the tax-registration route.Individual, company and employer circumstances are separated from the start.
- Collect the supporting particulars.Business registration information, director details, identification and existing BIR/TTBizLink status are captured securely.
- Prepare the applicable BIR/PAYE information.BizReg organises the file around the current IRD requirements that apply to the client.
- Flag missing prerequisites. If TTBizLink access, identification or another prerequisite is missing, it is identified before submission.
- Support the registration step.Final issuance and acceptance remain with the Inland Revenue Division.
The TTD $400 BIR & PAYE service does not automatically include VAT registration. VAT has its own eligibility threshold and supporting-document requirements.
